Welcome to the John Farwell State Farm Insurance Agency! I've been with State Farm for 33 years, beginning my journey as a claims adjuster in 1992. I worked in various roles, including claims supervisor, before achieving my goal of becoming a State Farm agent in 2000 in Texarkana, Texas. (I transferred in 2004 to Temple to be closer to family.)

Our agency in Temple is proud to serve customers across the entire state of Texas. We offer over 100 types of insurance policies, with a primary focus on auto insurance, homeowners insurance, renters insurance, commercial insurance, and life insurance.

I was born in Phoenix, Arizona, before my family moved to the Dallas-Fort Worth area when I was six years old. I started my college education at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX and later earned my business degree with a focus in finance from the University of North Texas. I went on to complete my MBA at Louisiana State University at Shreveport, LA.

My wife, Valerie, and I have been married since 1999. She is an attorney and we live here in Central Texas, where we’ve raised our two children. Our daughter is currently pursuing a master’s degree in sports neuroscience and journalism at the University of Arizona, while our son is a senior at Belton High School.

Outside of the office, I’m an avid sports fan. My biggest passion, however, is soccer. I’ve been a referee for many years, officiating high-level matches, including high school playoffs and games like the British Army vs. U.S. Army! I also enjoy teaching, serving as an adjunct professor at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, where I teach Introduction to Business and Personal Finance and Insurance.

My journey to becoming a State Farm agent started in college while running my own lawn mowing business. My very first customer was a State Farm agent, and I was inspired by the way he built relationships and made a real impact in his community. I knew that was the career path I wanted to take, and after eight years in claims and leadership roles, I made that dream a reality!

Our staff takes pride in our deep experience with claims. Having spent eight years in operations, I know firsthand what it takes to guide customers through the claims process and ensure they receive the support they need during difficult times. During the catastrophe in May of 2024, our office handled over 700 claims, working around the clock to help every customer navigate their situation and get the help they needed.
